Hi, Support,
I have a very general question. In the Media Engine, did you put any QoS capability there, and if not , will you do this in the future? Nowadays many servers have QoS feature but so far no softphone in the market has such feature. For example, the softphone can mark certain voice packages to be with higher priority then on the far side those packages will be processed first if there is congestion in the network, so that the latency will not exceed a specified level.
regards,
will

Hello Will,
This is a very good question. The media engine uses SIP and RTP protocols only. Only speaking about QOS for media handling: RTP does not address resource reservation and does not guarantee quality-of-service for real-time services. You already know this.
To add QOS capability, would require that we integrate RTCP (real time control protocol) or some other QOS protocol tranceiver in the media engine. Unfortunetely we are not planning to add RTCP at the moment unless one or more customers show a great need for it.
If you feel that QOS is very important, we would like to hear more of what you are thinking. Post any other additional info as you require.
Best regards,
Support
p.s. We are just about ready to release the next rev of the media engine. Of importance to you will be the addition of aLaw, G729, G729A and iLBC codec support. We will probably be releasing v5.11 by the end of January 2006.
