General Description

The LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® server is used in conjunction with the LanScape Centrex Proxy Server® (SIP Proxy). The VOIP Media Proxy® adds complete RTP media stream proxying support to the LanScape Centrex Proxy Server® SIP proxying functions. If you deploy the LanScape Centrex Proxy Server® as your SIP proxy in addition to one or more LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® servers, you will be able to configure a Voice over IP network that will overcome all of the problems associated with today's hostile peer-to-peer network environments due to NAT (Network Address Translation), PAT (Port Address Translation) and firewalls. You can achieve all these results without having to deploy INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE session controllers or network boundary controllers.

And finally, one or more LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® servers can be used in conjunction with the LanScape Centrex Proxy Server®. This capability will allow you to add additional VOIP media proxies to your Voice over IP network deployment as call traffic increases over time. Please not also that the LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® server will be able to proxy media for any network phone call regardless of the underlying RTP media rate and format.

Multiple SIP Proxies can use the same Media Proxies:

The LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® server can be configured to communicate with one or more different LanScape Centrex SIP Proxy servers. In this way, the media proxies can handle multiple network phone calls from a variety of different call domains transparently. When a LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® server is configured properly, it makes its presence known to all SIP proxies that have been configured. Using this capability, your VOIP network phone system can handle multiple domains and take advantage of a domain autonomous media proxy farm.

A single SIP Proxy can use one or more Media Proxies:

One or more LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® servers can be configured to "point" to the same LanScape Centrex Proxy SIP server. The advantage of this is that when call load requirements of your VOIP network system increase over time, you can grow your call handling capability by simply adding another LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® server on its own dedicated machine. There is no limit as to how many media proxies a single sip proxy can use. Each LanScape Centrex Proxy Server® in your VOIP network will assign calls to one of the media proxies that have the least call load.

In other words: When a LanScape Centrex Proxy Server® detects that a network phone call requires media proxying, it will assign the call to the media proxy that has the lowest  call load. All call media streams are assigned by LanScape Centrex Proxy SIP servers to a specific LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® server based on call loading of the media proxies. Complete load sharing and media call assignment is supported across multiple media proxies.

User Interface:

The graphic image below shows the user interface of the LanScape VOIP Media Proxy®. The media proxy server software must do one thing and do it well: that is to proxy RTP media streams as fast as possible between call endpoints using the network connections of the host machine. Because of this singular functionality, the user interface and configuration dialogs of the server are relatively straight forward and easy to understand.

Important: Your new LanScape VOIP Media Proxy® can be installed on the same host machine that hosts your current LanScape Centrex Proxy Server® (SIP Proxy). It can also be installed on a completely different host machine in the same sub-net as the LanScape Centrex Proxy Server®. To obtain the best possible performance and maximum call handling capacity from the LanScape VOIP Media Proxy®, LanScape recommends that you install the media proxy onto its own dedicated host.
