Hi VoIP Media Engine Guru:
I hope to add support of G.723.1 and G.722.2 codec into future VoIP Media Engine release. In fact, these codec implementation source code can be found easily over web, so it is only duty to optimize code base and integrate it into media engine.
Maybe u don't know, an russian company SpiritDSP also provides media enigne for PC and mobile. Therefore as potential your customer, I think u can study its feature and implement it into your own product.

Hi speedvoip,

Yes, yes, yes! More codec support is valuable. We have a list of codecs we want to incorporate into the media engine and your suggestions fit exactly.

Feel free to post all your thoughts to this thread on what codecs the LS media engine should support. We would truly love to hear your thoughts.

Actually, we have not heard of the SpiritDSP guys… so thanks for pointing them out to us. There is so much “stuff” out there it is hard to keep pace with it all. We will review their product offerings.

When you suggest that we incorporate G723.1 codec, you are aware that in order to use/deploy that codec, there are license/royalties that must be paid to the intellectual property holders. You know that right? If we are wrong, please correct us.

As far as wideband codecs go, we have not had tons of requests for them. We understand why wideband media would be a benefit but most of our requests go the other way – namely to massively reduce media bandwidth such as with G729 codec flavors.

Hi George,

If you have the reference ITU G722.2 source code implementation of this codec, please forward that to us if you can. We will look it over and see if we can't get this codec implemented sometime in the short term.

As far as we see, Opal does not support G722.2 wideband codec it supports G722 - not the same thing.

Hi George,

Thanks for the effort in forwarding this to us. We will deifinitely check this out.

By the way, your posts are time stamped very early in the morning (1:00 am, etc). It looks like you work the "grave yard" shift. Where are you located?

More to come....

Hi George,

My name is Randal. I am the CTO of LanScape. I run this organization and we are a small company. I usually moderate this support forum directly with the help of some of my developers. I probably post/answer about 80% of the total support forum posts. All posts we place on this support forum come directly from myself or from my other handful of software developers when they have to cover for me.

Thanks,

Randal
