Hello Eugene,
Thank you for contacting LanScape regarding the VOIP Media Engine.
We have been asked this a few times by other customers. Unfortunately we do not suppot a "generic" user supplied codec capability. The main reason for this is that a generic codec API greatly complicates the internals
of the media engine.
The problem is not so much associated with the actual generic codec support. That part is easy and could be built into the product. The complicated part is formulating the proper SIP and SDP protocol information for the generic user codec. Right now, the media engine handles the creation of all SIP and SDP information.
It is not clear if we will ever support a generic codec interface. We may go that route if our customer bases wants it. However, we will continue to offer additional standard codec capability as we move forward.
Just so you are aware, the upcoming release (v5.11) of the product adds the following additional codec support: aLaw, G729, G729A and iLBC.
Another possibility is for you to pay us for a custom version of the media engine. We have built custom version for other customers who had special requirements. However, this route may not be cheap.
Repost as required.
