Forgive me if my terminology is wrong. Does the engine
support recording phone lines at half duplex?

Is it possible to only record what the caller is saying?
If we wanted to build an IVR and only be able to write
to file what the caller said, is that possible?

Hello Guy,

No worries… you terminology is right on!   :)

Yes, you can do what you are asking.

Full Duplex Call Recording:
The media engine’s call recording by default records full duplex phone line voice (digitally mixed Tx and Rx voice on each phone line). What we should do is update the StartPhoneLineRecording() API procedure to allow the VOIP app to specify if Tx audio, Rx audio or both should be recorded.

I have logged an engineering request to put this capability into the next release of the media engine. If you decide to purchase, we will make sure to get this in the product.

Half Duplex Call Recording of received audio:
At this time to record only the audio that is received, your VOIP app will have to use the phone line’s receive IVR channels. Your app can intercept the received phone line audio for the call and do whatever it wants with it.

Once you have the sample blocks from the phone line, write them to disk or whatever you want to do with them.

Please repost if I have missed something,

Randal

Hello Guy,

A quick update… We just completed updating the media engine record capability that will be available in the upcoming v6.0.0.12 VOIP Media Engine release.

The new media engine updates will support all the current functionality of the current phone line audio recording via the API in addition to being able to specify:

1) Full duplex call recording
2) Transmit only call recording
2) Receive only call recording
