Hi,

My name is Ronit Brosh, and I the VP R&D of SpearCast, an internet company that considers including IP 2 PSTN connectivity to the client – a web-downloadable windows client, I read about the LanScape SDK, and though from a first glance it seems that it has the features we are looking for, I still have several questions:

Are you compatible with all SIP-compliant service providers?

Are there specific providers that offer a bundled package of service + SDK liscence?

Is there a free download / test version limited for a trial period? Even a thinner version will do – the primary features we are interesterd in testing are send an outgoing call, and initiating a call between 2 PSTN lines. That issue might be critical for our decision.

Not sure I understand completely the pricing model – just wanted to verify that for a single server and multiple installations on client side we will need only one license – please clarify.

Since we would like to take a decision within the next few days – I will appreciate you quick reply.

Best regards,

Ronit

Hi Ronit,

Thank you for contacting LanScape Corporation.

You asked many good technical questions. We will try to answer them one at a time.

You>>>
Are you compatible with all SIP-compliant service providers?

If the VOIP service providers are truly SIP 2.0 compliant, then yes. The critical word here is “all”.

The LanScape VOIP Media Engine technology has gone through extensive interoperability testing with other available software based SIP/RTP technologies in addition to compliance testing with hardware devices such as IP phones, border controllers and PSTN gateway devices. Also, the LanScape VOIP Media Engine has been verified to work with open source technologies such as Asterisk PBX, IPTEL’s SER (Sip Express Router) and a host of other open source offerings.

You>>>
Are there specific providers that offer a bundled package of service + SDK license?

We’re not sure exactly what you mean here but we are assuming you are asking if we partner with any VOIP service providers that also offer our VOIP technology capability. At this time, no VOIP service providers resell our VOIP Media Engine technology/license in conjunction with their VOIP service.

You>>>
Is there a free download / test version limited for a trial period?

We are sorry. :( At the moment we do not offer this capability. The only thing we can do for you is give you adequate pre-sales support and get all of your questions answered before you purchase.

You>>>
The primary features we are interesterd in testing are send an outgoing call, and initiating a call between 2 PSTN lines. That issue might be critical for our decision.

We need more specific information from you regarding this topic. The more specific you can be, the better chances we have in getting you a quality answer. We suggest you formulate a few scenarios that better describe what you want to do and repost that information to this pre-sales support forum.

This is what we can say:
Initiating a VOIP call from one network location to another network location will function as expected if you also deploy your SIP proxy + Media proxy (or SIP proxy + boundary controller) servers properly. These other VOIP elements are required to overcome the hostile nature of the network that is caused by firewalls and Network Address Translation (NAT routers).

Regarding “call between 2 PSTN lines”: We need more specific information regarding your call model.

You>>>
Not sure I understand completely the pricing model – just wanted to verify that for a
single server and multiple installations on client side we will need only one
license – please clarify.

We license the VOIP Media Engine on a per application basis. You need to purchase a license for each individual application you will develop. For example:

If you intend to develop your own 4 line soft phone, you buy a license for a 4 line media engine. Once you are done with your development, sell, distribute and install your applications on any number of machines.

If then you wanted to develop a new application – lets say a voice mail server, you need to purchase a different license because this is a completely different application. Once you are done with your voice mail application, sell, distribute and install it on any number of machines as required.

Note: Each licensed VOIP Media Engine allows a single instance of your application to execute per machine. If you want to develop an application that needs to be instantiated on a host machine multiple times, we fully support this capability. Please contact LanScape sales for pricing information.

This post intended to get your questions answered accurately. If you have further pre-sales questions, please do not hesitate to post back to this forum.

Best regards,
