Hi hermes,
Customers have asked us about “server capacity” and ‘max number of call” type questions numerous times. It’s very hard to offer concrete performance numbers due to variations in customer hardware, network interconnections, call format/rates, how the customer structured their application code using the media engine, etc.
We are attempting to put together some kind of normalized benchmark data for our VOIP products. Unfortunately this data is not yet available.
Please take a quick look at the following post. It goes into more details:
Performance benchmarks
We have considered many possible solutions that our customers could use to determine their own performance benchmark data.
One of our ideas is to bundle with our VOIP products a simple but effective software based VOIP call simulator that could be deployed by you on multiple test machines. All the VOIP simulators would then be set up to perform test calls through your VIOP Media Engine based server application (or whatever else you want to test). This way, you would be able to directly see and measure when your server machine starts to lag.
This is the technique we use here in our own labs using a VOIP simulator developed by our R+D guys.
Give us your thoughts. We would be interested in hearing what would be useful to you.
