I am testing the VOIP Media Engine.

Unfortunately I have some problems with the sample applications DialerTest and SingleLine Phone.
I get systematicaly a timeout error when I call EnableSipRegisterServer.

Here is some REGISTER messages trapped by the logDServer:

 Thanks for your post.

It sounds like your VOIP Media Engine trial period is over. The trial media engine will not function after the 30 day trial period is reached. Do you remember when you received your trial?

If you need another trial, just resubmit a trial request using the license managed app:
 http://www.lanscapecorp.com/ASP%20Files/VoipTestDrive.asp

 and we will process it.

 Thanks,

Ok, Then something is wrong. We will check the trial install image here and make sure it runs properly.

In the mean time, you might want to try installing the trial product image to another machine.

The product thinks the trial period is over. Its too bad we have to give time bombed trials. We wish we could just do away with all the trial stuff. If we don't have timed trial images, people just steal the product.

 We will repost shortly.

The trial product install image is OK. If you are getting crazy IP addresses and port values in your SIP, the media engine thinks the trial period is over.

There are various ways the install package determines that the trial period is over. Somewhere in time you must have set your PC forward and the media engine install is detecting that. Not sure what we can do about that. Try your media engine trial on a different machine.

We need more information on who you are trying to call. Explain what you are trying to do and we can then proceed to help you. Otherwise we are just guessing.

Also tell us a little bit about the server you are trying to access. Is it a VOIP service provider? Is it your own VOIP PBX? You get the idea.

The 403 that is being return looks like you are not properly registered with the SIP server or the call destination you are trying to call is not registered or available. It could be any of these possibilities. Our guess is that the server still does not think you are registered.

 Thanks,

 Ok I understand.

I am trying to make a call using the sample application "VOIP Media Engine\5.12\Software Examples\SingleLine Phone" provided in the installation directory.

This application contains the main function we need to start implementing our VOIP module which acts more or less as a softphone.

We are trying to access the server (freephonie.net) which is the VOIP access of the french ISP Free (free.fr).

Because we are testing your product, the same scenario (establish a connection, send DTMF, close the connection) is done with success using X-Lite (and the other product we are testing too) with exactly the same connexion parameters.

 | Raphael,

Good updated information. We have not had any interoperability issues with SIP INVITE requests for a very long time. It has to be something very simple. We are looking at it right now

If it is possible for you to allow us to have the VOIP user login info for the VOIP account, we can test from here. That would really speed things up. We would also need a local number at your location (in your lab, office, whatever). Please dont worry we are very trustworthy.

One other item regarding DTMF testing:
We are in the midst of releasing the v6 media engine product. v6 has fully integrated in-band and RFC2833 DTMF. You will love it. We will want to get you an engineering version of the v6 product for evaluation so that you can make the most of your testing efforts.

 Questions:
 1) Are you planning on using RC2833 DTMF?
 2) If you purchased the VOIP Media Engine, how many lines will you need?

We would very much like to get you on your way by the end of today.

 Thanks,

 Support

OK, this is only an educated guess

The media engine is registering with the Cirpack server using this Contact: header:

| Code:

    |

       | Contact: <sip:0952721512@192.9.200.93:6800>;user=phone

 | | |
When the 200 OK response is received, it has the Via header received and rport parameters set as follows:

| Code:

    |

       | SIP/2.0 200 OK
 Call-ID: db2d40dc-d3cf-4b66-8550-c92acbafa6eb-000005d4@192.9 .200.93

When the call is made to the Cirpack server, this Contact: header is being used in the INVITE request:

| Code:

    |

       | Contact: <sip:0952721512@193.253.53.18:61584>

 | | |
The IP address and port values that are being used are from the received and rport parameters the media engine knows about.

It appears that the contact header for the INVITE request has to be identical to the contact header in the REGISTER request when a user agent talks to the Cirpack server. Hmmm
. We have never seen this issue. Normally a registrar server only looks at the contact user name to determine if the call endpoint is registered.

We are only guessing but it is possible that the Cirpack server is using the user name (0952721512) the IP address (193.253.53.18) and the port (61584) and comparing all that information against what it has in its registar database. It then sends back the 403 not registered because it needs the triplet (0952721512,192.9.200.93,6800).

If the above scenario is TRUE, then we need a way to tell the media engine to not use the IP address and port values returned in the received and rport parameters.

We will check immediately what possible solutions exist.

 Question:
 1)
Is your media engine sample application configured to use SIP port 6800?

 2)
If possible, post a short REGISTER and INVITE SIP log from another SIP device that works. We should be able to see immediately if our assumptions above hold TRUE.

This appears to be a typical NAT related issue. Not a big deal.

 Thanks,

 | Raphael,

We just thought of something that may cure the situation for you. The media engine can use its internal NAT detection to use your WAN IP and port values from registration cycles as reported from a server's "received" and "rport" parameters.

What this will do is allow your media engine applications to register with the Cirpack server using the WAN IP address and port values from the first authentication challenged REGISTER request.

 Please do the following:

 1)
In the example source code you are using, locate the call to the EnableSipRegisterServer() API procedure.

 2)
The last parameter passed to this API procedure is the "RegisterNatAutoDetectEnabled" parameter. Make sure to set this to TRUE (non zero).

 3)
Try your test call again. With any luck, your call should connect without errors.

We tested this at our location. Here is a SIP log of a media engine based soft phone calling a SwissVoice IP10S SIP phone here in our lab. The VOIP domain is controlled by our Centrex SIP and Media proxy servers. Notice how all the "Contact:" headers after the first authentication challenged REGISTER are now all the same for extension 996.

Note: IP addresses and port values in the SIP log below were altered for security purposes.

Thats too bad our suggestion did not work. We cannot see from the SIP why the 403 response would be returned by the server. It all looks OK. Hmmm
 we have to think.

OK. If the RegisterNatAutoDetectEnabled parameter of the EnableSipRegisterServer() API procedure did not help, then turn it back OFF (FALSE).

In the mean time, try contacting freephonie.net And ask them why the INVITE is not being accepted. One of their engineers may spot the SIP issue immediately.

Please answer all of the following Questions:

 1) Are you planning on using RC2833 DTMF?

 2) If you purchased the VOIP Media Engine, how many lines will you need?

 3) Can you allow us to access your VOIP account temporarily for testing. This will speed up finding the solution. We hate guessing and wasting time. :)

 4) When the media engine sample is making the phone call, it is trying to use PCMU
(uLaw) data for the media. Is that supported by your VOIP provider? We only ask this because your x-lite phone is not using uLaw codec in its INVITE. Try the media engine sample application using iLBC codec.

Lets keep working together on this so that we may fond the solution.

 Thanks,

A 403 response from a server means forbidded. The reason phrase in the response to the INVITE may be a bit misleading.

 From the SIP RFC3261:

 21.4.4 403 Forbidden

The server understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it.
Authorization will not help, and the request SHOULD NOT be repeated.

Try the call using either G729/G729A or iLBC codecs.

The other thing you must do is tell us the codec types and the RTP frame sizes in milliseconds that the VOIP provider supports. We just saw that x-lite phone was told to use 30Ms frame size aLaw.

This could also be a media negotiation issue...

The main goal of this evaluation was to choice a SIP SDK for our product.

VOIP Media Engine sound very good for a SIP closed implementaion.
But we are not SIP specialists so we need a product that work like X-Lite or that have native TAPI or CAPI interfaces.

We select intentionaly a VOIP provider widely use in france.
Many other SDK we already test for now succed to establish a connexion to the freephonie acount without specifics tunning .
The other test will use a Asterisk IPBX.

Unfortunately I will have to suspend the VOIP Media Engine evaluation because other product we are testing are hahead and need more attention.

I hope we will comeback to you, your product is realy rich and it whould have deserved more attention.

 Thanks a lot,

 Raphael,

Sorry you are leaving us. We would like to know the exact reason why the media engine had an issue calling through the service provider. We are sure it is something very simple. We have thousands of successful VOIP installation all over the world.

Our support people will contact the service provider this week and see if we can perform inter-op testing with their service in France.

We do understand however that you are in a hurry. We hope you do come back and reconsider the media engine for your VOIP development.

The contents of these posting will remain in the support forum. Others will be able to benefit from the information we have exchanged.

We wish you great success in your VOIP development.

 Thanks Raphael,
